The architecture in Payyoli, Kerala is firmly rooted in the traditional Malabar style, but an architecture and design practice from Kozhikode is bringing it into the future.
Thought Parallels, a practice consisting of designers Kikhil Mohan and Shabna Nikhil, have designed a family home called the Overture House in Kerala. Spread over 10,000 square feet of greenery, the home adds contemporary biophilic elements to the area’s ancestral architecture. Speaking with Surfaces Reporter magazine, the architects explained that the client specifically wanted to incorporate the surrounding landscape into the home’s design.
The design of the Overture House harkens to Indian culture and was constructed with mild-steel frames – a sharp contrast to the greenery surrounding it.
