The designs of inner-city homes typically reflect the sleek, metropolitan aesthetic of their neighborhoods. One midtown Toronto residence shows the opposite, opting for a “nature-oriented” feel with biophilic elements.
“Biophilic design describes a conscious effort to link the built environment to the natural world, through various sensory experiences including sight, sound, touch and smell,” Heather Dubbeldam explained.
Dubbeldam’s firm handled the development and construction of the home. The inner-city home largely embraces prairie-style design, with updated features including taller windows and a skylight over the home’s staircase. An article by the Star described the home as looking out on and absorbing “the sounds of the water and biodiversity outside.”
