Continuing their series on hotel interior design, HotelDesigns.com explores ways in which biophilic design influences wellbeing.
Joined by environmental psychology researcher Nigel Oseland, biophilic design expert Oliver Heath digs into the “multi-sensory relationship” people have with their surroundings.
With biophilic design on the rise in both interior and architectural design, Heath emphasized the importance of designers discovering its potential. “The challenge is that research is relatively academic,” he said. “These studies whilst they peak one’s interest, it’s not enough. Our job is to translate the value of these findings to our customer.”
Oseland echos Heath’s statement, noting the many health benefits spaces with biophilic elements offer their occupants. “With the rise in chronic illness, and mental health awareness also comes environmental awareness.”
