UK news site the Guardian was awarded the Biophilia Award by the BBVA Foundation for their efforts and commitment to reporting about the environment.
The foundation developed the award in 2019 and with the honor comes €100,000 (about $132,300 in US currency). The evaluation committee applauded the Guardian’s “holistic approach” to environmental reporting.
“The global climate crisis is the emergency of our times and we are committed to informing and educating our readers about the impact of global heating,” editor-in-chief Katharine Viner said in a statement. “Our team of environment journalists around the world brings expertise and real care to the subjects they deal with, highlighting and explaining vital scientific and societal issues to Guardian readers in a thorough, accessible way.”
