The pandemic has affected every aspect of our lives, even influencing 2021 design trends.
“What sets 2021’s design trends apart from other years is that we’re now putting more emphasis on functionality than ever before,” Grace Stephens, a writer for Furniture Today, said in a recent article. “As we continue to adapt to our new reality, so must the spaces we live in.”
Of the trends, Stephens notes in her article, biophilia and industrial-style elements stand out the most. Industrial-style elements give off a modern look while maintaining their functionality, while the pandemic has also helped many people realize how much they crave a closer relationship with their surroundings and the resulting benefits.
“Tropical motifs and floral decors have been in vogue for some years now. People want to be surrounded by the energy of nature,” Stephens said, adding that indoor gardens are a particularly popular option.
“Industrial style has a mix of modern and traditional design and works for interiors that have to serve as places to live, work and play,” designer Kobi Karp explained in the article. Ways to introduce this style into your space include leaning toward exposed stonework, neutrals and combining wooden and metal elements.
