Carr, an Australian design firm, has planned a residential development that draws heavily on biophilic design principles.

The Brunswick Yard development will have 122 apartments, with the goal of connecting residents to their surroundings and “beautify the surrounding area.” In an interview with Australian Design Review, Chris McCue, the firm’s director, called the development a “study in designing for the extended space.”

“We’re part of the gentrification of a Brunswick neighborhood that’s converting from industrial to residential, and part of that is bringing a more residential quality to the streets,” McCue explained. “If we want to create these beautiful streets, we need more greening and more street trees.”

The residential development will feature a café on its main floor, and there are plans to extend the biophilic design into the landscaping of the public areas surrounding it.
