What comes to mind when you hear the phrase “urban jungle?” City streets, grey sidewalks, concrete buildings, all devoid of color. A guest article from the Living Architecture Monitor questions how we can bring nature, its benefits and pops of color into an urban jungle.

“In hospitals, biophilic design has been shown to reduce stress, pain and blood pressure while accelerating recovery times,” writer Rory Doak stated in the article. “In other settings, it has been shown to boost mood, productivity, creativity and concentration, among other mental attributes.”

Doak also notes the fact that individuals spend 90 percent of their lives inside, so the benefits of a biophilic environment “stand to make major differences” in their quality of life.
