New Zealand lighting designer David Trubridge has given two of his most loved collections a sustainable update. Trubridge, who’s style is lauded for its biophilic elements, has reissued the Cloud and Ebb collection of light fixtures using plywood material.
The original Cloud collection was made from plastic, while the original Ebb collection was incorporated with polycarbonate materials and plywood. Reaffirming his commitment to sustainability, Trubridge decided to remove the plastic lighting fixtures from his brand. According to an article for Surface magazine, the fact that the pieces were initially inspired by nature encouraged Trubridge in his decision.
While the reimagined Cloud and Ebb collections retain their original designs, the plywood material allows for more creative touches. For example, the inside of the new Cloud fixtures can be covered with a bright color to enhance the light shining through it.
