The final day of the virtual Greenbuild 2020 summit featured a session on the benefits of biophilic design in learning, retail/hospitality and working environments. The one-hour discussion included Jim Determan (principal, Craig Gaulden Davis), David Kepron (founder/owner, NXTLVL Experience Design) and Erin Linney (member, Salesforce sustainable built environment team).
Increased productivity, creativity and reduced stress are three common benefits of biophilic design. With this in mind, Determan and a team of researchers produced a number of studies to see what it can do for academic success. Findings from a study conducted at a private school showed a 300 percent increase in mathematics, on average. The study also found that students were less stressed as compared to a more controlled classroom environment.
